Menu Board for our Kitchen

I put together another item for my orange, blue and gray kitchen. It is funny, I am working on all of the accessories for the kitchen, but I have no motivation to do the hard stuff. I really should be redoing the cabinets. I think it is because I can do these projects in a couple of hours, I know the big stuff will take much longer. Anyway, here is my latest project.

I got the frame at Goodwill. It was super ugly, but I saw the beautiful potential. I painted the detail on the frame in orange, then when it was dry, I dry brushed the light blue over the whole frame. Letting a little of the orange come through. I love it.

The print with the pans, I got as a freebie on another blog. I feel so bad because I do not know where. If someone could tell me where, I will link it back. I just need to purchase some really strong magnets now, so that it will hang on my fridge. Now all I have to do is pre-plan my meals and write them down with a dry-erase marker every week. So excited.

Up-cycled Sweater Dress

Happy Friday! I am so glad it is here. Tonight is crafting night at my church. I am so excited to get together with other ladies, and craft away. My daughter is going to come for a little bit with me tonight, so that will be fun. We are going to work on her Valentines. I will have pictures tomorrow.

Well I did my first up-cycled clothing item for my daughter. Saturday night, her daddy and her are going to a daddy date night dance. She needed a special dress. I knew I could come up with something adorable for her. My aunt recently sent my sisters and I some of her old clothes. She has great stuff. The items that none of us could use I kept. She had this great sweater that fit none of us, but was so pretty.

I was going to do a full tutorial on this, but I am really new to sewing. Also since this was my first article of clothing, I decided against it. Someday, I will try. Basically after trying it on my daughter, measuring, cutting, and resewing, I came up with this.

 I added some rosettes and ribbon flowers. The tie around the middle can go in front or back.

                  The scrunchy, ankle covers were the parts of the sleeves I cut off. I just added elastic to keep them up and some pretty stuff to match the tie.

 The hat I got at Dollar Tree. I want to learn how to make them. I just added some rosettes to it. She loves it.

She will be the belle of the ball. I love her eyes.

Finger Knitting and a Present for my Friend

Happy Tuesday,

Back to the work week. Well my week isn't bad. Watching the kiddos at least lets me be home so that I can craft. I learned something new today. I have always wanted to know how to knit. My great-grandmother tried teaching me when I was about 8, but it did not happen. I have a very talented woman from my church who has offered, so now I just need to take her up on it. In the meantime, I came across this tutorial on finger knitting http://pretty-ditty.blogspot.com/2008/07/finger-knitting.html. It is geared towards teaching your kids, so perfect. It was so easy, and I made this for my daughters teddy bear.

She loves it, and she even helped pull the yarn over my fingers. I know she will be doing this on her own soon. So much fun.

I also took two of the plain t-shirts from the post yesterday, and remade them into a wonderful present for my friend. Well at least I think it is wonderful.

The pictures are not great, but I made the scarf thing around my neck. It is really cool. I followed this tutorial on Shwin & Shwin http://shwinandshwin.blogspot.com/2010/09/recycled-tee-scarf.html. I absolutely love it, and I think she will too. I am going to make myself one.

I also made her the following. My model is my niece, Leah, and my daughter. However, it fits me too. That is good because my friend has a my size head.

I didn't use a tutorial, but there are gobs of them on the web. I covered a headband with the t-shirt fabric, and then made three rosettes. I used some old buttons, and the top of some antique hat pins that I inherited. I love it, and so did my daughter. I made one for her and I to share. I can't wait for my friend to open it. I am off to a good start to the year for my pledge to make all of my gifts this year. So much fun. Well that is all for today. My aunt is coming over tomorrow to craft, so I will have hopefully something cute to show you.
