Happy Wednesday,
My day is going well indeed. Tonight my little girl has her first award ceremony for Cubbies. She finished her book, and she is so excited. I can't wait to see her cross the stage.
Last night I had a baby shower to attend for a new baby girl that should be making her appearance any day. I made her a cute little outfit. It was not a difficult piece to make, but sewing machine decided to make it so. What should have been an hour project ended up taking about four. The machine kept jamming, coming un threaded, and not wanting to draw up the bobbin. I was not happy with it. Oh well, it worked out and the project got done. Here is the final result.
I made a cute sundress with this beautiful material I picked up at the Cotton Thimble.
I cut a onesie in half, and made the bottom portion a diaper cover. I just sewed some material with elastic to the top.
I made the top part a sweater by cutting the front apart and adding ruffles to each side.
I then added three ruffles to the backside.
I am sorry my pictures are lame. Hopefully someday I will get better at that. Thank you for taking a peek. Hope you have a great day.

Resurrection Cookies
Hello All,
So I wanted to teach my little girl about the real reason of Easter. We get so wrapped up in egg hunts, cute dresses, and getting together with family. That is all great, but it is not the reason we celebrate Easter. We have a few books we read, and she learns about it at church, but it is most important for us as parents to model it for our children. I found this great idea in the March/April 2011 edition of MomSense, so this is not my idea.
It is ideal to do this the night before Easter, we were so busy though this weekend that we did it the day after. Either way, it does teach her the real reason. This is a long post so beware. I wanted to link to this article in MomSense, but they don't have it there, so I am literally copying it.
You'll Need
1 c Whole pecans or 1 C mini-chocolate chips
1 tsp vinagar
3 egg whites
Pinch of salt
1 c sugar
ziploc bag
wooden spoon
tape
Bible
1. Preheat oven to 300
2. Place pecans or chocolate chips in ziploc bag. Have child beat with wooden spoon. Explain that after Jesus was arrested, the Roman Soldiers beat him (john 19:1-3)
3. Let each child smell the vinegar before putting it into a mixing bowl. Explain that Jesus was thristy on the cross, he was given vinegar to drink ( John 19:28-30)
4. Add egg whites to the vinegar. Eggs represent life. Explain that Jesus gave his life to give us life.(John 10:10-11)
5. Sprinkle a little salt into each child's hand. Let them taste it and brush the rest into the bowl. Explain that this represents the salty tears shed by Jesus' followers and the bitterness of our own sin.(Luke 23:27)
6. Add sugar. Explain that the sweetest part of the story is that Jesus died because he loves us. He wants us to know him and belong to him. (Psalm 34:8 and John 3:16)
7. Beat egg white mixture with a mixer on high speed for 12 to 15 minutes until stiff peaks are formed. Explain that the color white represents the purity of those whose sins have been cleansed by Jesus (Isaiah 1:18 and John 3:1-3)
8. Fold in broken nuts of chocolate chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Explain that each mound represents the rocky tomb where Jesus' body was laid (Matthew 27:57-60)
9. Put the cookie sheet in the oven, close the door, and turn off the oven. Give each child a piece of tape and seal the oven door with the tape. Explain that Jesus's tomb was sealed (Matthew 27:65-66)
10. Go to bed. Explain that they may feel sad to leave the cookies in the oven overnight. Jesus' followers felt despair when the tomb was sealed too. ( John 16:20-22)
11. In the morning, open the oven and give everyone a cookie. Notice the cracked surface and take a bite. The cookies are hollow. On the first Easter, Jesus' followers were amazed to find the tomb open and empty. He is risen! He is risen indeed! ( Matthew 28:1-9)
Here are a few pictures from our time. She really enjoyed it, and explained everything she did to her daddy later.
I think this definately made it more real for her, and they tasted pretty good as well. Hope you can do this next year with your little ones.
God Bless,
Shelly

Easter Weekend, and Repurposed Easter Sweater
Hope you all had a great Easter. Spending time with family and friends, and remember that the real reason we celebrate is our Risen Savior. Tomorrow I will be sharing the activity with my daughter that I did to show her the real reason of Easter, but today I will just show you some pictures from our weekend.
I got my daughter's Easter dress last year at a thrift store for $4. It was so cute, but being in Wisconsin, we need a sweater for all of our dresses at this time of year. I wish I had a before picture, but I don't. I got a yellow sweater at a thrift store a couple of months ago. I liked the color, buttons, and the pattern, but I knew I never would wear. I knew it would be perfect for my daughter though. After some cutting and moving things around, this is what I came up with.
I redid the neckline, changed the sleeves around, added the lace embellishment, and the flower.
I loved the big yellow buttons on this sweater.
Cutest Easter girl ever.
Here are some other pictures of our great Easter weekend. We spent Sat. at my parents, and Sunday at Grant's parents house. It was a great weekend.
Allieroo and I
Daddy and Allieroo at the park
Egg hunt at Grandma and Grandpa Young's house
Egg hunt at Mimi and Papa's house.
Well I hope you enjoyed, and again I hope you had a great weekend.
Thanks,
Shelly

Don't Leave It On The Desk
Happy Easter Saturday! I got this email the other day from a friend. I normally don't care too much for these sort of things, but this one really touched me. It really made me think about the really reason we celebrate Easter. Jesus died for our sins, and he endured more then we could imagine on that cross. He took all of our sins, all of our pain on Himself, and he did it regardless as to whether we would believe it or not. Thankfully he did not just die, but He rose again. Hallelujah! Anyway, I just want to share this story with you, and I hope you like it.
" DON'T LEAVE IT ON THE DESK"
There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr. Christianson , a studious man who taught at a small college in the western United States . Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution. Every student was required to take this course their freshman year, regardless of his or her major. Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously. This year, Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going onto seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor's class. One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. "How many push-ups can you do?"
Steve said, "I do about 200 every night." "200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christianson said. "Do you think you could do 300?" Steve replied, "I don't know.... I've never done 300 at a time" "Do you think you could?" again asked Dr. Christianson. "Well, I can try," said Steve. "Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said the professor. Steve said, "Well... I think I can...yeah, I can do it." Dr. Christianson said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday.. Let me explain what I have in mind." Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No, these weren't the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson's class. Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, "Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?" Cynthia said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?" "Sure!" Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten. Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia's desk. Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe, do you want a donut?" Joe said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson asked, "Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a donut. And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten push-ups for every person before they got their donut. Walking down the second aisle, Dr. Christianson came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship. When the professor asked, "Scott do you want a donut Scott's reply was, "Well, can I do my own push-ups?" Dr.Christianson said, "No, Steve has to do them." Then Scott said, "Well, I don't want one then." Dr.Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Scott can have a donut he doesn't want?" With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten push-ups.Scott said, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!" Dr.. Christianson said, "Look! This is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my donuts.Just leave it on the desk if you don't want it." And he put a donut on Scott's desk. Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down. You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow.Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, "Jenny, do you want a donut?" Sternly, Jenny said, "No."Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten more push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?"
Steve did ten....Jenny got a donut. By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say, "No!" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks.Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these push-ups done for each donut. There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved.Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten push-ups in a set because he couldn't bear to watch all of Steve's work for all of those uneaten donuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert count the set and watch Steve closely.Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row.. During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 students in the room.He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it.Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time. He was taking a lot more time to complete each set.Steve asked Dr. Christianson, "Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?" Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, "Well, they're your push-ups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that you want." And Dr. Christianson went on. A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, "NO! Don't come in! Stay out!" Jason didn't know what was going on. Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come." Professor Christianson said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten push-ups for him?" Steve said, "Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut." Dr. Christianson said, "Okay, Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out of the way right now.Jason, do you want a donut?" Jason, new to the room, hardly knew what was going on. "Yes," he said, "give me a donut." "Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups very slowly and with great effort. Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down. Dr Christianson finished the fourth row, and then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. By this time sweat was profusely dropping off of his face, there was no sound except his heavy breathing; there was not a dry eye in the room. The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular. Dr. Christianson went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, "Linda, do you want a doughnut?" Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you." Professor Christianson quietly asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can donut she doesn't want?" Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow push-ups for Linda. Then Dr. Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan. "Susan, do you want a donut?"Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry. "Dr. Christianson, why can't I help him?"Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, said, "No, Steve has to do it alone; I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not.. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work. Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push-ups." "He and I made a deal for your sakes." "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?" As Steve very slowly finished his last push-up, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 push-ups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor. Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said, "And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, 'Into thy hands I commend my spirit.' With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, He yielded up His life. And like some of those in this room, many of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten. " Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile. "Well done, good and faithful servant," said the professor, adding, "Not all sermons are preached in words." Turning to his class, the professor said, "My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ . He spared not His Only Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all, for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid."
"Wouldn't you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it lying on the desk?"
This being "Easter" time, it is a very good time to review the GIFT God has given us; Jesus Christ our Savior.
Thank you Charlene for sharing this with me
Happy Easter Everyone!

A Couple of Baby Gifts
Happy Friday to you All,
I am so glad it is. Two of my friends have recently had babies. One a girl and one a boy. I am doing really well with keeping to my commitment this year of only giving presents that are handmade. They turned out so cute. I have two more presents to make this weekend. One for a girl and one for a boy. I will be showing those here next week.
The flower on the onesie I cut out with my Silhouette SD, and ironed it on.
I got the pattern for these baby slippers here. http://cathiefilian.blogspot.com/2011/03/stitch-this-baby-booties.html
I made the tutu by just cutting piece of elastic and tying on the pieces of tulle. So easy, so cute.
I made these slippers from the same tutorial, and used my Silhouette SD for the Robot. Best Christmas present ever. I made a rattle as well out of two kids socks, stuffing, and a cat toy.
Embellished him with some puffy paint. He is so cute.
Well thank you for reading today. Hope you enjoyed my baby presents. I hope the babies like them too.
God Bless,
Shelly

God Bless,
Shelly

Utility Garage Tiles Transformed into Beautiful Rugs
This is a project I have been wanting to do for awhile now, and finally got the time and creativity. I also found a great deal on the main item needed for this project. I found these the other day at Goodwill for $9.99
The rug by the patio is three blocks wide, the kitchen mat is two blocks wide, and the dog mat is half of a block. I did not like the notches on the sides, so I cut them off with my scissors. This was super easy. They ended up looking like this.
This is under my puppy's dishes
This is the kitchen mat. It does not match the kitchen yet because I have yet to finish the kitchen, but it is going to be white, orange, and light blue.
This is the detail more up close.
This is the one that will go by the patio door. I used acrylic paint for all of them, I also sealed them with a spray sealant when I was done. I used three coats of that. I used my Silhouette HD for the stencils on my patio rug, and I free handed the other two. Love them all.
I love the three birds. Reminds me of my little family: Grant, Allieroo, and I
So spring like. I think I am going to make one for every season. I like this one, but it is almost a little too formal for my tastes. I am going to head back to Good will to see if I can get more. Anyway, that is one of the projects I have been working on. Hope you enjoyed.

Shelly
I was so excited because they usually start at $20 a piece in our local home improvement store. Anyway, I have been wanting to get a new rug for by my kitchen sink, a mat for under my dog's dish, and a new rug by our patio door. I like the industrialness of these mats for all three areas. I saw the inspiration for this idea on this blog http://thecreativityexchange.blogspot.com/2011/02/hand-painted-floor-mat-laundry-craft.html. I love this blog, she has so many great ideas. I would never have thought to do this. This came with six blocks, so plenty to do all three of my projects. That is right three decent size rugs for $9.99, you cannot beat that.
They started out like this.

I love my Neti Pot
Look at this two posts in a day. I have the time, and have things to talk about so why not. Allergy/sinus season as been horrible for me. I actually suffer all year long, but the last few weeks have been not so great. I don't usually get the nasal problems, but lately I have. When this happens, I rely on my neti pot.
I know it looks like a gravy boat, and I suppose if you don't have one of these you could use a gravy boat. I first heard about this on the Oprah show years ago. My mom and mother-in-law had one and said they worked great. I guess if you use it almost everyday, you can almost make your symptoms go away. I don't and so that is probably my problem. It takes a bit of getting used to. You fill the container with a salt like solution and warm water. You then pour the water up one nostril and tilt your head just so, so that it comes out your other nostril. At times it feels like you are drowning, but when you get used to it, it is the best thing ever. You then repeat on the other nostril. When I am sick I do this several times a day. I don't know if that is recommended, but it works for me. It really helps me to breath. I also like that it is natural and not some drug to take. I am on eye drops twice a day for my itchy, watery eyes, and other allergy drugs don't work for me so this is it. To all of my allergy/ sinus cold suffering friends, I would give it a try.

Shelly

Snow fun and Ice Cream
So it is the middle of April in Wisconsin, A week ago it was in the 70's and a week from now it is supposed to be in 60s. However, yesterday and today it is like this.
It started snowing yesterday, and we have gotten about 6 inches. It went from total Spring loveliness to this. Kind of sad, kind of beautiful. This is Wisconsin for you though. It can snow well into May.
Our puppy, who is getting huge, and being a winter puppy is in heaven. She was missing the snow. Allie was so happy to. It was perfect playing snow. Fairly warm outside, and big, heavy, fluffy flakes. They played outside for over an hour.
They had so much fun, and Allie did her favorite thing. She ate tons of snow. She absolutely loves it. That gave me an idea. I wanted to make snow ice cream all winter, but kept forgetting about it. This was perfect, fresh snow, and a little girl who loves to eat it.
Here is the recipe I used. I found it on-line by typing in snow ice cream recipe. Anywho,
1 gallon fresh snow
1cup sugar
1 T vanilla
2 cups milk
makes 8 servings
Gather the snow, and add all of the other ingredients. Mix it all together, and serve. Super easy, and really super yummy. We put chocolate sauce on it. My husband would not eat it though. He said he will not eat dirty water. He thinks anything that falls from the sky is dirty. I can see he logic, but well I still am going to eat it.
Well that was our evening yesterday. I have been working on tons of projects lately. Hopefully I will get better about posting and show you some. Have a great day.
God Bless,
Shelly

Makin Misfits Mine Monday on Tuesday
So Yesterday, I got out of the house for a little while to do some grocery shopping. I also headed to our local Goodwill. I ran into a lovely friend of mine, Carrie, and scored some awesome things. I picked up a bunch of t-shirts so that I would retry my failure of a dress for Allie. More on that later. I also got the following beautiful items.
They are pewter candlestick holders. When i saw them, they literally took my breath away. The detail on them is just beautiful, and I love how they have tarnished.
I have two of these, I just love the detail.
This is my favorite one, sorry for the crappy picture. I am not quite sure where they are going yet, but they will find a wonderful home here. I love them. I just love old things.
I also scored these beauties. I am going to repaint them, but I love the detail. These are going to go on my living room wall, that is still being put together.
There actually is another little one two, but I couldn't find it.
What a well worth it trip to the local thrift store. I love finding wonderful things like this. I hope you all have a great Tuesday. It is actually going to be in the upper 40s today, and sunny for once. I so need the sun, I am sick of the gloom.
